WELCOME - Winter 2011 Update‘Where’s the #%$% photocopier??’ I WAS recently reminded of our company’s continuing growth when genuinely, if only momentarily, I failed to find a relocated photocopier in one of our regional offices. On closer inspection (according to the girls - ‘not a boy look’), I also noticed that the office layout and colour scheme had changed, and that there were, in fact, a bevy of additional team members now working in the space, of whom I had not even really met yet! Change – that old friend or foe surrounds us all. Some try to deny it, closet themselves away to gain fictitious protection from it, but then there are those who run with it – thrive on it – face up to its challenges and leverage off it magnificently. We hope you enjoy this edition of our Update.
TIME TO REBUILD
But amidst all the rubble and heartache, the spirits of our Cantabrian brothers have remained strong. With determination and vision, Christchurch is starting to rebuild, to become something much bigger and better than it was before. While progress may be slow, it is inevitable that our second largest city will rise up out of the ashes, or the liquefaction to be more precise, and we want to be there to help achieve this goal. Cook Brothers Construction is now operating in the Canterbury region. To contact our Christchurch troops, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. PROJECT PROFILEOtago Polytechnic, Creative Precinct COOK BROTHERS won the tender to complete stage one of Otago Polytechnic’s Creative Precinct, in Dunedin. A fantastic addition to the Polytech, and situated across the road from the Forsyth Barr Stadium on Anzac Avenue, the building serves as a fabulous new learning centre for Engineering and Arts students. This inspired design by McCoy & Wixon Architects places real emphasis on natural light, functionality and aesthetics, all of which superbly complement the purpose of the building. Cook Brothers ensured that the client’s expectations were met at all times, including successfully working to a fast-tracked programme of only four and a half months, and achieving a Zero Defects rating upon completion.

END NOTEIF ever our nation needed strong leaders – it surely is now. The harsh challenges of multiple natural disasters and the resulting economic and social effects seem to leave a vacuum for such people. For our team’s small part in our nation’s recovery, we embrace the opportunity, and look to the future with our eyes open, perhaps slightly narrowed, but only to focus on how to make best of that old friend – Change.
