Golden Centre Mall - Commercial Building - Dunedin

Golden Centre

Client:
Golden Centre Holdings Ltd
Architect:
JCY, Auckland
Project Budget:
$5 million
Size:
5500 sq. metres
Project Length:
April 2009 – Nov 2009

Cook Brothers Construction was engaged by Golden Centre Holdings Ltd to refurbish the Golden Centre, Dunedin’s oldest shopping mall, on a negotiated GMP contract basis.

Most of the work was carried out at night in order to minimise potential disruption to the daily operation of the mall and to allow the team to meet the completion deadline. Due to the contained nature of the construction site, we had to come up with a creative way to remove demolition material. By successfully engineering a trolley system for a 6 cubic metre skip, the team could easily dispose of all materials without compromising on time and the flow of the mall.

By raising the roof to create a lot more space and light, and by using opulent materials such as high-gloss tiling and latticed ceiling panels with coloured glass, it generates a wonderfully pleasant ambience. The commercial refurbishment has totally transformed the shopping experience at the Golden Centre by creating a “more refined” retail experience.

Southern Cross Hotel - Commercial Building - Dunedin

Client:
Scenic Circle Hotels
Architect:
Dalman Architecture, Chch
Project Budget:
Undisclosed
Size:
70 rooms
Project Length:
5 months

Cook Brothers undertook the commercial building refurbishment of this iconic 70-room Dunedin hotel.

The timeframe for this commercial project was crucial in terms of project management, as the hotel had booked in the South African Rugby Team to stay for the Dunedin Tri Nations tournament game that year.

The building project was finished ahead of schedule, to the delight of the client, as it meant the rooms could be booked out earlier, and thus resulting in greater returns for the hotel.
