Alibi - Bar & Restaurant - Dunedin

Client: Cook Brothers Bars
Architects: WJ Cadzow & Associates
Project Budget: $750,000
Size: 280 sq. metres
Project Length: 16 weeks

Retail Construction Alibi DunedinThe iconic Tip Top corner dairy in Dunedin’s Octagon has now become the home of a new Dunedin icon, the Heineken Concept Bar, Alibi.

A Design & Build, this project required redesigning the internal layout of the building. Originally, the kitchen constituted over half the premises, so Cook Brothers carefully remodelled it to gain an extra 25% to allow for a much more spacious bar and restaurant.

Characteristic features include solid wood joinery, plywood panelling to walls, and creative metalwork to the fireplace and bar.

Velvet Burger Respect (Octagon) - Dunedin

Retail Construction in New Zealand

Client: Cook Brothers Bars
Architects: WJ Cadzow & Associates
Project Budget: $450,000
Size: 120 sq. metres
Project Length: 14 weeks

Originally, this cool-as burger joint was a pizza bar with a bunker-style apartment below it.

So, in order to create the unique and functional space that is now Velvet Burger Respect, Cook Brothers Construction had to completely gut both the apartment and the pizza place to allow for a complete overhaul. Major structural steel work was required to make way for the impressive new kitchen.

A significant feature of its design is the staircase that leads underground, which makes for great upstairs/downstairs flow and provides a unique space that works for patrons, at any time of the day or night.

Searle Lane & Social - Bar & Restaurant - Queenstown

Client: Cook Brothers Bars
Architects: MAP
Project Budget: $600,000
Project Length: 12 weeks

Cook Brothers Construction was faced with a tight programme and a strict deadline for Searle Lane & Social’s opening night – a challenge that the boys tackled headfirst. The team worked exceptionally hard to get the bar/restaurant up and running in only 12 weeks; just in time for Queenstown’s famous Winter Fest 2010.

Key features of this fit-out include a large open wood fire, polished concrete floors and steel cross bracing to add visual effect. A mixture of materials were used from brick to plywood, raw timber and stonework, not to mention the old sleepers and rough sawn boards applied to the walls, all of which come together to give Searle Lane that rustic, ski chalet feel that's juxtaposed nicely with it's sleek, modern exterior.
