Along with Ara, Cook Brothers Construction would like to congratulate Jonty and Simon, who received the Supercharged Carpentry Student Award.

Jonty Schist

"I chose Jonty for the supercharged award because he has been an outstanding student in many ways. Jonty was always on time and communicated well in advance if he couldn't be. He would get to the site and start getting set up. He would always be moving and doing something onsite. Often, he was the last to leave, asking me if there was anything else that needed to be done before he left. Jonty was great in the classroom. Completing all assessments early and was engaged in all subjects. Onsite I was able to give him some jobs that were challenging, jobs that involved thinking, problem-solving and patience. He succeeded in these jobs and asked for help when needed"

Blake Billington

"Blake studied at Ara Te Pūkenga from May 2022 to February 2023 and successfully completed the Certificate in Construction trades skills level 3.

Blake started the programme two weeks later than everyone else because he had not turned 16 yet. From the start, he had good attendance and was always willing to learn.

Part way through the year, I helped him get a job with a local builder, and after speaking with him, he tells me that he is very happy with Blake and is offering him an apprenticeship. The onsite carpenters are also very happy with him and his approach to work.

Blake is assertive and has a direct approach to his work; he works hard to finish a task and always takes any advice onboard. For his age, he is mature, and I found him to be very honest, and he communicated well.

There is no doubt that Blake will make a great Apprentice and achieve well within the construction industry. I look forward to following his journey and seeing what he gets involved in.
