About the Role: Quantity Surveyor, Canterbury

As we continue to grow, our busy Canterbury is looking for an experienced and ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding team. This is not your usual managing Quantity Surveyor role, nor is it a purely project-silo position - This is a role for someone comfortable balancing project delivery with tactical commercial input across the business.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in managing project budgets, procurement and cost reporting for high-profile commercial projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full commercial ownership of a medical to large-scale construction project ($200k - $20m range)
  • Manage all cost contract, forecasting, reporting and contractual administration
  • Lead and negotiate complete variations and claims
  • Provide support on contentious commercial matters across other live projects
  • Assist with sub-contract procurement and dispute resolution where required
  • Prove and commercially manage small works packages when and as required
  • Operating with a high level of autonomy while contributing to the wider team objectives

About You

We are looking for someone who can take full commercial ownership of significant projects whilst also contributing more broadly across the business when required. You will be commercial assertive when and as required, and motivated by autonomy, variety and team culture rather than job title.

  • A minimum of 8 years proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the New Zealand construction industry.
  • Proven track record of independently delivering projects within the $200K - $20m range
  • Strong history of full project commercial ownership
  • Demonstrated experience handling claims and variations (Including contentious negotiations)
  • Solid subcontract procurement and commercial management background
  • Comfortable operating in dynamic or ambiguous project environments
  • Able to work independently without close supervision
  • Collaborative and culturally aligned with a team first approach.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong English proficiency, confident negotiation and sharp commercial acumen are key strengths, enabling informed decisions that consistently deliver value, drive project success and support the ongoing growth of the team.
