Four outstanding architectural projects, brought to life by Cook Brothers Construction in collaboration with some of the country’s leading architects, have been celebrated as the finest at this year’s Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Southern Architecture Awards. This recognition highlights not only the exceptional construction expertise of Cook Brothers, but also the creative vision and skill of the architects behind each project.

One of the standout achievements was the Ayrburn Precinct in Arrowtown, designed by SA Studio. This project was a double winner, securing accolades in both the Heritage and Hospitality categories. The creative vision of SA Studio was commended by the jury for its sensitive adaptation of the historic Ayrburn Homestead, expertly balancing the preservation of heritage character with the demands of contemporary hospitality. The result is a vibrant restaurant that retains the strong historic essence of the original building.

In the Commercial Architecture category, the Mt Cardrona Station Homestead in Wānaka, designed by Leuschke Group Architects, was honoured for its architectural excellence. Leuschke Group’s thoughtful approach created a landmark that harmonises with the surrounding landscape, reflecting modern needs while respecting the area’s unique character.

The Arrowtown Houses, designed by Cheshire Architects, claimed the regional award in the Housing category. This project showcases Cheshire Architects’ ability to blend innovative residential design with the distinctive charm of Arrowtown, offering homes that are both visually striking and contextually sensitive.

Finally, in the Interior Architecture category, The Mill in Queenstown, designed by Warren and Mahoney, received recognition for its exceptional interior spaces. Warren and Mahoney’s design demonstrates a refined understanding of space and material, resulting in an environment that is both functional and inspiring.

These four projects not only highlight the remarkable craftsmanship of Cook Brothers Construction but also underscore the creative excellence of the architects involved. Each collaboration has contributed to the rich architectural landscape of Otago, setting new benchmarks for design and construction in the region.
