Daffodil Day 2020

Long time supporters of the Cancer Society, the team at Cook Brothers Construction have faced the battle of both fighting and losing loved ones to cancer. From what began as a round table discussion on a quiet and overcast afternoon in Queenstown four years ago, the "Daffodil Gardens" have grown to become a welcome burst of cheerful colour splashed across the Cook Brothers Construction sites of New Zealand each August.

Last year the Cook Brothers team celebrated a milestone of $50k reached in three years and set their sights on 2020 with ambitious enthusiasm. However, as the year unfolded and the sudden and far-reaching effects of COVID-19 became more apparent, the team faced an uncertain challenge to fundraise. In the eyes of Managing Director Dave Bulling, there could never be a more important time to rally the troops; "Now more than ever, it's important to keep supporting those who need us. Cancer doesn't stop - and neither will we."

Stronger together than apart - the Cook Brothers team again turned to their valued clients, trade partners, friends and family to answer the call and were again blown away by the keen support of those who came together to donate. By "planting" a daffodil banner and showing support, together we have raised another incredible 23k for the Cancer Society nationwide.

Our sincerest thank yous go out to our Auckland Region, who although they are still facing the coal face of the pandemic, saw 26 new supporters come on board to play their part. Their site, in Albert Street in Auckland Central, now with its 2m high yellow daffodils will become a symbol of hope, support and strength for their community.

"With Cook Brothers marking fifteen years in construction this year, this is also a great opportunity for us as a team to recognise how far we have come and to say thank you to the people who have helped us get there. We would be nothing without the support of our communities, the hard work and effort of our valued trade partners and the trust and loyalty of our amazing clients."

This year Cook Brothers are also excited to be partnering with the Cancer Society of New Zealand Canterbury-West Coast Division with their annual fundraising event this year aptly named "The Party". This event will be an exciting evening of entertainment, dancing and celebration at the exquisite venue The Majestic. Tickets are on sale here, but get in quick as they are sure to be snapped up!

"We are so pleased to again have the opportunity to support The Cancer Society of New Zealand, who celebrate their 30th Anniversary of Daffodil Day this year. Their great work has helped countless Kiwi families through some really tough times and has provided care and hope for many more. With further work to do, we look forward to playing our part in beating cancer for our families, team and their communities".
